Weirdly this might have been the biggest pain in the ass project so far. Every corner is beveled and the center joints are mitered creating a challenging glue job, keeping everything aligned during assembly. I used the DowelMax 90 jig to help align everything but any corner that was off by a degree multiplied across the rest of the corners. I had to recut a couple boards to fix the problem. Once everything was assembled, all the inside corners made glue clean up a nightmare. The multiple levels made for extra undersides so during both staining and finishing, rotating the shelf around in all direction to get smooth and full coverage without drips was impossible. Overall a very educational project, but not one I would want to repeat soon.
Dimensional Pine Boards, Keyhole Hangers
Varathane Wood Conditioner, Varathane Provincial Stain, Shellac
The number of bevels and miters made this project a real challenge. Perfect alignment of all the corners is crucial because any misalignment is worse at the other end. Dowels were key to keep it aligned. Have corner clamps ready next time and clean any glue squeeze out before it dries. Some of the inside corners were really ugly. A lot of sawdust was needed to fill mitered corner gaps.
